Cox and Dinkins provided master planning, site design, landscape architecture, and low impact development services for the design and redevelopment of the City’s oldest and largest public housing complex. This project includes the demolition of 30+ buildings and new construction of a multi-use neighborhood which offers single family housing, senior living, playgrounds, parks, greenspaces and
more.
Cox and Dinkins worked with Columbia Housing Authority on the masterplan for the site. Once finalized, our design team took the masterplan and produced a full set of construction documents to include landscape and hardscape design. Several large historic grand trees were saved which helped to inform our design process. This required coordination with a local arborist to develop a rootbridging detail for the road proposed within the critical rootzone of the saved trees. The final result is a walkable, shaded, and diverse community that integrates preserved oak trees to create a sense of place, natural beauty, and lasting environmental value.
