Sanford Dinkins Elected Vice-Chair of City of Columbia DDRC

March 17, 2020

“Columbia has always been home to me and I want to make every effort to give back to the city that has given me so much. I am truly honored to serve on this commission alongside several other knowledgeable and humble city servants.” – Sanford Dinkins

Congratulations to Sanford Dinkins on being elected as Vice-Chair of the City of Columbia’s Design Development Review Commission (DDRC).

The DDRC reviews and approves work proposed within Columbia’s historic districts, urban design areas, and upon the city’s designated landmarks. They seek to maintain the architectural and historic significance of Columbia’s landmarks and developments by ensuring new developments are sensitive to the design districts and complement the surrounding architectural elements. This commission has quasi-judicial power to enact legally-binding decisions about proposed developments and renovations that fall within the scope of their review.

Sanford received two degrees from the University of South Carolina, including a B.S. in Civil Engineering and a B.S. in Chemistry. He obtained his professional engineering license in 2012 and has assisted Cox and Dinkins with projects in South Carolina, North Carolina, and Georgia. Here are a few brief highlights of Sanford’s credentials and impacts upon Cox and Dinkins:

  • LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Certified
  • Directs the economic and community growth initiatives within our firm
  • Coordinates strategic advancement in our use of technology
  • Leads one of our land development division teams
  • Oversees all engineering projects for federal clients
