Built in 1934 and seating 17,600 people, Columbia’s Municipal Stadium has grown into what is now Williams-Brice Stadium. Generations of alumni, students, visitors, and long-time faithful fans flock to what ESPN calls “one of the loudest venues in the country.”
Williams-Brice Stadium is now a sprawling, 14-acre, destination location for more than 80,000 loyal fans and visitors alike. “Springs Brooks Plaza,” named for the family of Robert H. Brooks, is the latest of many improvements to Williams-Brice Stadium’s exterior grounds. The design incorporates similar hardscapes, landscaping, and other site amenities found throughout Gamecock Park, bringing continuity between both facilities.
Cox and Dinkins, along with our sub-consultants and design professionals, led the transformation of the stadium’s grounds, including: a 12,000-square-foot ticket sales and retail center; installation of more than 340 trees, 220 light poles, a half-mile of ornamental fencing; replacement of the turf and sub-surface playing field drainage system; and redesigned entrances with safe pedestrian friendly access.
